Upcycling is the new black – The Renegade Seamstress takes reconstructing clothes to a whole new level!

The holidays are coming, which means you have to look your best for when your long lost aunt and uncle come to thanksgiving dinner and ask you what you’re doing with your life.

Because money is a huge issue for a lot of people these days, especially us broke college girls, a new trend called ‘upcycling’, which is basically using useless products to enhance and create something new, has been taking the world by storm.

The Renegade Seamstress, aka Beth Hunting, has been perfecting this craft, and sharing her ideas with the world.

Beth, whose first publication was released in September, has received recognition from the 2013 bloggy award for best tutorials and has been crowned a sewing superstar, so she kind of knows what she’s talking about.

Her tutorials take you step by step for revamping your old clothes, or clothes you just bought from a thrift store.

Like this dress that Beth found in a thrift store that she created into a  ‘Mad Men Inspired’outfit.

If you’re not much of a sewer, or just not very creative, using scissors to cut articles of clothing into skirts, scarves, and tops is another great way to upcycle!

Taking this old dress and cutting the bottom to create a stylish infinity scarf is easy to do, and saves you about $20 at a high end store.

EVERYONE has a belt or twelve that they don’t wear. Why not make it into a cute bracelet or cuff?

Okay, so you know that sweater that your grandma got you last year for christmas that you refuse to wear? Well, Beth teaches you how to make it into a trendy winter purse!

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on holiday clothes this season, just remember that upcycling old clothing will save you tons, and will look just as cute on you 🙂
