A sure fire way to save cash – ask for help!

As I’ve stated before, a lot of people cannot physically and mentally handle working a full time job AND going to school full time. As a result, choosing between an education and being able to take care of yourself, financially.

The people that choose to get an education, often find themselves in a place that causes depression, anxiety, and constantly asking themselves if they made the right decision.

As if that stress wasn’t enough, assignments, midterms, exams, and finals all pile up at once, and it makes the experience of going to school a grim one.

Those folks will probably experience one of these throughout their schooling:

  • Those who think asking for help shows signs of weakness and it hurts their pride.
  • Those who are afraid of rejection, so they sit and wallow about the fact that they are poor and don’t do anything to fix it.
  • Those who want to ask someone for help, but aren’t sure how to go about asking respectfully.

If you identify with one of these three descriptions, I promise, you will not be drowning in debt forever.

There are simple ways to go about asking for help, without making you or the other person uncomfortable.

Our friends at eHowwrote up an article which perfectly describes the appropriate process of asking someone for financial help in four easy steps.

  1. Make sure you clearly state the reason why you REALLY need the money. Whether it be for rent, paying off your car, or simply to live off of until you get your feet on the ground, people and businesses will get a better understanding of how much you need the money.
  2. Remember that not everyone you go to will be able to help you, so don’t let your current financial situation make you an angry person. Staying humble, being appreciative for even listening to your story, and not making people feel bad for you will help you out in the long run.
  3. Being able to explain that you have a plan to change how you’re currently living is something that people will not only respect, but they will also see that you’re going in one direction, and that’s up!
  4. This might be the most important step in the process. Express to them how thankful you are they want to and are willing to help you. Even if they can’t help, the fact that they want to is something to be grateful for. Sending thank you notes is ALWAYS a simple and nice way to make people know that you do care about them.

Please, don’t be afraid to ask for help. It could come from someone you least expect!

Upcycling is the new black – The Renegade Seamstress takes reconstructing clothes to a whole new level!

The holidays are coming, which means you have to look your best for when your long lost aunt and uncle come to thanksgiving dinner and ask you what you’re doing with your life.

Because money is a huge issue for a lot of people these days, especially us broke college girls, a new trend called ‘upcycling’, which is basically using useless products to enhance and create something new, has been taking the world by storm.

The Renegade Seamstress, aka Beth Hunting, has been perfecting this craft, and sharing her ideas with the world.

Beth, whose first publication was released in September, has received recognition from the 2013 bloggy award for best tutorials and has been crowned a sewing superstar, so she kind of knows what she’s talking about.

Her tutorials take you step by step for revamping your old clothes, or clothes you just bought from a thrift store.

Like this dress that Beth found in a thrift store that she created into a  ‘Mad Men Inspired’outfit.

If you’re not much of a sewer, or just not very creative, using scissors to cut articles of clothing into skirts, scarves, and tops is another great way to upcycle!

Taking this old dress and cutting the bottom to create a stylish infinity scarf is easy to do, and saves you about $20 at a high end store.

EVERYONE has a belt or twelve that they don’t wear. Why not make it into a cute bracelet or cuff?

Okay, so you know that sweater that your grandma got you last year for christmas that you refuse to wear? Well, Beth teaches you how to make it into a trendy winter purse!

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on holiday clothes this season, just remember that upcycling old clothing will save you tons, and will look just as cute on you 🙂

Time is money, so don’t waste it on the road – Waze App

Ever heard of the phrase – “Time is Money”?

Well, if you really think about it in terms of traffic… it’s so true.

You could leave an hour early for work in order to avoid traffic, but with the roadways being the way the are today, a lot of people still arrive late to work AND waste money on gas.

There’s only so much one person can do to avoid the treacherous Turnpike and I-95.

But, with technology advancing every day,Waze App was developed in order to aid in the problems a lot of American’s go through on a daily basis… waisting time and money sitting in traffic. What makes this app different than any other traffic app is other drivers who utilize the Waze app can alert you what is happening on the roads you’re wanting to take.

In order to get the best use out of Waze, after downloading the app (which is available online, through Google play, iTunes app store, and Windows phone store) create an account so you can not only see what others are reporting, but in turn let other Waze users know what’s going on in the roads.

One of the first things to experiment with is the navigation feature. You can connect the places you frequently travel to through Waze, and you’ll always get the easiest route to take.
You can also connect the app to your Facebook events, which allows you to find the best route to an event you have coming up!

Another great feature with the app is being able to send directions of your current location, or one of your favorites, to friends in your phone book.

Now, the fun part.

Being able to alert other Wazers is not only helpful for them, but for you as well!

The more you report, the better chances you get of being added to the real time map!

Here are the different types of reporting:

Traffic Jams

Police Activity

Accident reports

And Hazard reports:

And of course, life has been made easier by featuring all current back ups in one area.

Waze is a free to help you save time which will also save you money 🙂

Staying fit on a budget is easier than you think

Happy Friday Ya’ll!

As college students and someone who doesn’t have a 9-5 job, finding a sufficient place to work out without spending loads of cash may seem next to impossible.

Between the clothes, shoes, and work-out venue, most people spend at least $200 a month. Here’s some helpful tips on how to get great deals on work out clothes and shoes, and how to get a great work out… for FREE!

Famous Footwear is currently having a GREAT sale on their athletic training shoe brands like Nike, New Balance, Sketchers, Reebok and more! And yes girls, all the fun colors are available.

Need some new work out gear? Kohl’s always has a GREAT work out clothes section. If those are out of your price range, Kohl’s is always marking down their items which makes the clearance section your best bet!

Now you’ve got comfy shoes and some awesome new work-out wear… what’s next? Oh right, the work-out part 🙂

You always hear about how amazing cross-fit is, how many hours your friends spend in the gym, and the latest work-out fad, but you’re never able to experience those because of course, money is an issue.

I’ve found some incredible work-outs that will not only make you see results, but you won’t have to spend a DIME in the process! (And we all know that’s actually the best part, right?)

Warm-up: Do each for 20 seconds, and repeat 2-3 times.

  • Jump rope (or use your imagination if you don’t have one)
  • High knees
  • Butt kicks
  • Jump Lunges
  • Mountain Climbers

Once you’ve done that, its time for the real deal. I’ll go through some arm, leg, back, and abdominal work-outs that are easy to do at home!

For an arm work-out that requires no equipment, Health.com
has broken down a 10 minute arm toning work-out that will be sure to show results. With 10 reps of 5 different work outs which are demonstrated for you on the website, you will never need to use a weight again.

POPSUGAR has all kinds of ideas and printable workouts for at home use! This is one of the killer work-outs you can use to sculpt those legs… Look out Carrie Underwood!

The people at Tone and Tighten have got your back… literally. They have great work-outs to tone up your back, and get rid of that annoying backfat.

And last but certainly not least… the abdominals. 30 Day Fitness Challenge has been known to create some awesome month long work outs, and of course the ab work-outs are no exception. This site also offers tutorials on how to correctly do the exercises!

See budget babes?! No more excuses that you’re too broke for a gym membership! So get on it, and stop making the excuse “eh, I’ll start tomorrow” and start today!

Coffee Addict? Save your money, and buy a Keurig.

Hey Everyone! I hope Monday is treating you right!

Did you get to Dunkin early enough to get your fresh cup of joe? Was your order made just the way you like it? Chances are, you answered “no” to one of these questions.

Did you know, according to a USA Today article, the average American spends $1,092 a year on coffee alone. For a broke college kid… that’s a LOT of money to spend on a substance that keeps you alert for about 4 hours.

If you haven’t heard of the Keurig coffee machine, than you might be living under a rock… or are just unaware of the technology that creates the perfect cup of coffee right in your own home! (For the sake of this post, I’m going to focus on the single cup brewing system, as pictured below)

This isn’t an ordinary coffee maker. The Keurig operates with a ‘K-Cup’ system that eliminates the process of grounding the coffee. It’s all done for you in a compact container like this one!

Once the K-cup is inserted into the machine, you just close the lever and wait for the water to heat up!

One tip is to make sure you’re filter and your reservoir (fancy word for water container) are clean about every three months!

The average price for the at home single cup brewing system ranges from about $70-$130 on the Kuerig website, but if you shop online at Walmart.com, they are offering a bundle right now if you purchase the Keurig Elite K40 Single Serve Coffeemaker, it will include a 18ct box of delicious ‘Coffee People Donut Shop’ K-Cups free!

Right now, Walmart is also offering an online K-Cup bundle on some of your favorite brands like:

  • Starbucks
  • Foldgers
  • Lipton Iced Tea
  • and more!
  • So stop spending gas to go spend money on coffee, and make the switch to Keurig!
