A sure fire way to save cash – ask for help!

As I’ve stated before, a lot of people cannot physically and mentally handle working a full time job AND going to school full time. As a result, choosing between an education and being able to take care of yourself, financially.

The people that choose to get an education, often find themselves in a place that causes depression, anxiety, and constantly asking themselves if they made the right decision.

As if that stress wasn’t enough, assignments, midterms, exams, and finals all pile up at once, and it makes the experience of going to school a grim one.

Those folks will probably experience one of these throughout their schooling:

  • Those who think asking for help shows signs of weakness and it hurts their pride.
  • Those who are afraid of rejection, so they sit and wallow about the fact that they are poor and don’t do anything to fix it.
  • Those who want to ask someone for help, but aren’t sure how to go about asking respectfully.

If you identify with one of these three descriptions, I promise, you will not be drowning in debt forever.

There are simple ways to go about asking for help, without making you or the other person uncomfortable.

Our friends at eHowwrote up an article which perfectly describes the appropriate process of asking someone for financial help in four easy steps.

  1. Make sure you clearly state the reason why you REALLY need the money. Whether it be for rent, paying off your car, or simply to live off of until you get your feet on the ground, people and businesses will get a better understanding of how much you need the money.
  2. Remember that not everyone you go to will be able to help you, so don’t let your current financial situation make you an angry person. Staying humble, being appreciative for even listening to your story, and not making people feel bad for you will help you out in the long run.
  3. Being able to explain that you have a plan to change how you’re currently living is something that people will not only respect, but they will also see that you’re going in one direction, and that’s up!
  4. This might be the most important step in the process. Express to them how thankful you are they want to and are willing to help you. Even if they can’t help, the fact that they want to is something to be grateful for. Sending thank you notes is ALWAYS a simple and nice way to make people know that you do care about them.

Please, don’t be afraid to ask for help. It could come from someone you least expect!

Upcycling is the new black – The Renegade Seamstress takes reconstructing clothes to a whole new level!

The holidays are coming, which means you have to look your best for when your long lost aunt and uncle come to thanksgiving dinner and ask you what you’re doing with your life.

Because money is a huge issue for a lot of people these days, especially us broke college girls, a new trend called ‘upcycling’, which is basically using useless products to enhance and create something new, has been taking the world by storm.

The Renegade Seamstress, aka Beth Hunting, has been perfecting this craft, and sharing her ideas with the world.

Beth, whose first publication was released in September, has received recognition from the 2013 bloggy award for best tutorials and has been crowned a sewing superstar, so she kind of knows what she’s talking about.

Her tutorials take you step by step for revamping your old clothes, or clothes you just bought from a thrift store.

Like this dress that Beth found in a thrift store that she created into a  ‘Mad Men Inspired’outfit.

If you’re not much of a sewer, or just not very creative, using scissors to cut articles of clothing into skirts, scarves, and tops is another great way to upcycle!

Taking this old dress and cutting the bottom to create a stylish infinity scarf is easy to do, and saves you about $20 at a high end store.

EVERYONE has a belt or twelve that they don’t wear. Why not make it into a cute bracelet or cuff?

Okay, so you know that sweater that your grandma got you last year for christmas that you refuse to wear? Well, Beth teaches you how to make it into a trendy winter purse!

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on holiday clothes this season, just remember that upcycling old clothing will save you tons, and will look just as cute on you 🙂

Time is money, so don’t waste it on the road – Waze App

Ever heard of the phrase – “Time is Money”?

Well, if you really think about it in terms of traffic… it’s so true.

You could leave an hour early for work in order to avoid traffic, but with the roadways being the way the are today, a lot of people still arrive late to work AND waste money on gas.

There’s only so much one person can do to avoid the treacherous Turnpike and I-95.

But, with technology advancing every day,Waze App was developed in order to aid in the problems a lot of American’s go through on a daily basis… waisting time and money sitting in traffic. What makes this app different than any other traffic app is other drivers who utilize the Waze app can alert you what is happening on the roads you’re wanting to take.

In order to get the best use out of Waze, after downloading the app (which is available online, through Google play, iTunes app store, and Windows phone store) create an account so you can not only see what others are reporting, but in turn let other Waze users know what’s going on in the roads.

One of the first things to experiment with is the navigation feature. You can connect the places you frequently travel to through Waze, and you’ll always get the easiest route to take.
You can also connect the app to your Facebook events, which allows you to find the best route to an event you have coming up!

Another great feature with the app is being able to send directions of your current location, or one of your favorites, to friends in your phone book.

Now, the fun part.

Being able to alert other Wazers is not only helpful for them, but for you as well!

The more you report, the better chances you get of being added to the real time map!

Here are the different types of reporting:

The clothes you don’t wear can be turned into cash at Plato’s Closet!

There is one thing every broke girl looks over when it comes to thinking of ways to get fast cash.

I bet you right now, if you looked in your closet you would find at least four items of clothing you DON’T wear and have no clue what to do with.

Plato’s Closet is a consignment shop with a huge selection of new and gently used clothes, shoes and accessories that are trendy NOW. No, not two seasons ago… right NOW!

How does it work, you ask?

Simply:

  • Compile the clothes you’re looking into selling.
  • Bring the clothes to your nearest Plato’s Closet Location.
  • While the buyer is looking at your clothing, you’re able to shop around for clothes that you WILL wear.
  • Once the buyer creates an offer for your clothing, you’re able to accept or deny the offer.

Here’s a little more explanation into the buying process.

There’s a few things you might want to know before you go bringing you’re ugliest sweater to the store:

  • Make sure you call your local store to verify they are accepting what you have to offer.
  • Also, check the website for a list of articles of clothing they will accept.
  • Make sure the items you are wanting to turn in are gently used if not new, you’ll have a better chance of getting an offer.
  • Keep in mind, some stores vary what they will accept based on location and the demographic they serve. So if something is denied at one store, doesn’t mean it will be at another.

A lot of girls don’t know how to dress for their body type, so they just buy what they think looks cute on other people and what they see in magazines. This is the perfect opportunity to sell those clothes that you might not love anymore, and actually splurge on something that you will wear all the time!

THAT day of the year is coming: Black Friday

Hey there!

So it’s been a little while since we’ve posted, but that’s because we’ve been trying to find the BEST things to give tips on!

With midterms out of the way, we are coming to the home stretch of fall semester, which means final exams, turkey, stuffing, family, friends, and ONE DAY ONLY SPECIAL SAVINGS!

Traditionally that would be the case, but with every passing year, it seems as though stores are opening earlier… even thanksgiving night!

Some people are totally against going out on thanksgiving night to get those early bird specials, which is okay! But, there are still those dedicated black friday shoppers that LOVE the challenge and are stepping up to the plate! We’re here to help get those deals to you as soon as possible, so you can relax during the day and have your whole shopping experience mapped out already!! (You can thank us later)

The Black Friday make this The Black Friday has taken the liberty to compile a list of the biggest stores in America such as Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, etc. and listed their store hours. Although some stores have no released their hours of operation yet, they will be posted as soon as the stores release them!

IMG_6350.PNG

They also have made a link available to show you the closest location near you for each store, which will make it easier to map out your shopping trip!

IMG_6351.PNG

Another great thing about this site, is it has news about stores have already released their black friday deals, has the actual ads from stores that have already released their special deals, and even has a section of stores that have yet to publish their ads, but plan to as the day comes closer.

As far as stores that are in shopping malls are concerned, at least across south florida, they will all have different opening hours. A lot of the malls haven’t released their hours of operation yet, but as soon as they are, you’ll be the first to get them 🙂
